New Delhi: Fashion designer Rohit Bal is in critical condition. Admitted at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Bal has been diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. The medical condition stops the heart from pumping adequate blood to the body.
As per a Hindustan Times report, Rohit Bal is now doing better. Bal's cardiologist Dr. Praveen Chandra spoke with the publication and shared, "Last night we were worried that the situation could change for the worse, but he is stable now. He has started responding."
Rohit Bal was earlier rushed to Moolchand Hospital by his friend, model Suraj Bhalia after he suffered cardiac failure. Bal also had other complications such as pancreatitis, diabetes, and acute kidney failure. When his condition worsened, he was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, reported the same publication.
"We panicked as we realised that his heart was sinking. He had severe heart pain. His pacemaker gave seven shocks, and he was unconscious. We feared that we were going to lose him. We are grateful to God that he is responding,” Julie Deb, Bal's close friend told HT.
Earlier in 2010, Rohit Bal suffered a massive heart attack. He had to undergo an emergency angioplasty. His pancreatitis also worsened over the years.
Also known as Gudda by many close to him, Bal has been in and out of hospital for serious health complications in the last few months.
In the meantime, Rohit Bal's friends and those from the film and fashion fraternity are praying for his speedy recovery.
“This news is very unfortunate. Rohit is a strong person. We are hoping and praying that he pulls through. There is encouraging news coming from the hospital,”HT quoted Sunil Sethi, Chairman, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) as saying.
“We have been taking updates from his family. We pray that he comes out of it victorious,” designer Leena Singh told the publication.
Hailing from Kashmir, Rohit Bal is known for his flamboyant couture. His international clientelle list includes the likes of Naomi Campbell, Uma Thruman and more.
