Pakistani Actors Removed From Hindi Film Posters Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, and Mawra Hocane are being removed from Bollywood film posters amid rising India-Pakistan tensions and government restrictions.

Pakistani actors like Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan have seemingly vanished from the promotional posters of their Bollywood films Raees and Kapoor & Sons, respectively. This move comes shortly after Mawra Hocane's removal from the Sanam Teri Kasam promotional materials amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

On Monday, it was noticed that Mawra Hocane had been removed from the Sanam Teri Kasam album covers on Spotify and YouTube Music. Actor Harshvardhan Rane now appears as the sole face on the promotional materials.

A similar change was made to the album cover of Shah Rukh Khan's Raees, where Mahira Khan's image was removed. Previously, the cover featured both Shah Rukh and Mahira. Now, it only displays Shah Rukh Khan.

Additionally, the song Buddhu Sa Mann, which originally featured Fawad Khan alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, has become inaccessible on YouTube in India. The video, posted by Sony Music India, currently shows the message: "Video unavailable." The poster of the song has also been edited on music streaming platforms to remove Fawad Khan from the image.

However, the poster for the film 'Khoobsurat,' which starred Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan, remains unchanged for now.

Mawra Hocane from Sanam Teri Kasam

Mawra Hocane has also been removed from the album covers of her debut film 'Sanam Teri Kasam' across Spotify and YouTube Music. In an interaction with Hindustan Times, the film’s producer Deepak Mukut stated he had no prior knowledge of the changes.

“They didn’t ask me, it’s their decision. Whatever our government says, everyone has to follow,” he said.

“Now they will say that my PR team got this done! No, it's just common sense, I assume—vetting is being exercised,” he added.

These edits appear to be part of a broader crackdown on Pakistani artists' presence in Indian media, coinciding with heightened political tensions. India has taken stringent actions following Operation Sindoor, including banning Pakistani content on streaming and OTT platforms.
