'I Was An Ill-Tempered Man': Naseeruddin Shah Says Ratna Pathak Shah’s Parents Were Against Their Marriage

Ratna Pathak Shah’s parents disapproved of her marriage since Naseeruddin was once married and was a drug addict.

New Delhi: Ratna Pathak Shah and Naseeruddin Shah tied the knot on April 2, 1982, after dating for around seven years. They have two kids, Imaad and Vivaan, and Naseeruddin has a daughter, Heeba, from his first marriage. In an interview, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah spoke about the first time he saw his Ratna. He also discussed their courtship. However, Ratna's parents opposed the couple getting married. They disapproved of their marriage since Naseeruddin had been married previously and was a drug addict.

Naseeruddin Shah had love at first sight with Ratna. He told Humans of Bombay, “I took to her the moment I saw her. I had done my first film at the time when we were introduced. She was working in a Satyadev Dubey play and I had done one film. It just felt like I'd like to know this person. She also liked what she saw, (of course). It has been a great blessing. We stood by each other through thick and thin, it fact she stood by me through all kinds of time - very difficult and very good times.”

The actor went into further detail about his happy marriage to Ratna, saying that he and his wife value their friendship above anything else.

According to Naseeruddin, Ratna parent’s opposed their marriage proposal. He said, "We did not live together, we were courting. I courted her for seven years before marriage. Her parents were against it, as I was a drug addict and married before. And (I was) ill-tempered (also), but she did not pay any heed to that."

Naseeruddin recently starred as Emperor Akbar in the ZEE5 original historical drama ‘Taj: Reign of Revenge’. On the other hand, Ratna Pathak Shah was last seen in the comedy series ‘Happy Family: Conditions Apply’.
