Kangana Ranaut Takes Indirect Jab At Alia Bhatt's 'Jigra' Amid Low Box Office Opening: 'When You Destroy...'
As Alia Bhatt's 'Jigra' was released today, Kangana Ranaut took to social media to write a cryptic note about "women-centric cinema."
New Delhi: Vasan Bala's latest film starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, 'Jigra' opened today to mixed reviews from reviewers and the public alike. Even though Alia's performance, story, and direction were praised, some viewers are still not satisfied. Moreover, shows have been cancelled by theatre owners owing to poor attendance. According to Sacnilk, Jigra had a lacklustre first day in India, with just around Rs 3.58 crore (net) in all languages.
In the midst of all this, actress Kangana Ranaut posted a cryptic note on Instagram stories, leading many to believe that she was aiming her rage at the 'Jigra' producers. In her message, Kangana explained the concept of karma. The actress wrote, “When you destroy woman centric films and make sure that they don't work, they don't work, even when you make them. Read that again. Thanks.”
Kangana has a track record of publicly criticising Alia, having voiced her distaste for ‘Gully Boy’ in the past. She said, “I am embarrassed…What is there to beat in Gully Boy Performance… same snappy muhfat girl… Bollywood’s idea of a fiery girl, woman empowerment and good acting, spare me this embarrassment, please.”
Alia responded to Kangana's criticisms by saying, “I respect Kangana’s work a lot and I respect her opinion. If she feels a particular way, she must have a reason to feel that way.”
About ‘Jigra’
'Jigra' follows Alia Bhatt's character, Satya, as she risks everything to rescue her brother, Ankur (played by Vedang Raina), from a foreign prison where he is tortured and wrongfully convicted.
Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions are the co-producers of 'Jigra'. Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri's 'Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video' is giving Alia's starrer a tough competition at the theatres.
