Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda, who once ruled the silver screen with his charm and comic timing, has had his fair share of extraordinary fan encounters during his career. Recently, his wife, Sunita Ahuja, shared a bizarre yet fascinating story about a fan who went to great lengths to be close to the actor.
When a fan stayed at Govinda's house disguised as a maid
During an interview on "Timeout With Ankit," Sunita revealed that a fan had posed as a domestic worker and lived in their home for nearly three weeks. "There was this fan who pretended to be a house help and stayed with us for around 20-22 days. I thought she seemed like she came from a well-to-do family. I even mentioned to my mother-in-law that she didn't seem to know how to clean or do the dishes properly," Sunita recalled. She added that eventually, they discovered the woman was the daughter of a minister and had been a devoted Govinda fan.
Sunita further explained how her suspicions grew over time. "I was young back then, but I found it strange that she stayed up late, waiting for Govinda. It really shocked me. So, we did a background check, and that’s when she broke down and admitted she was a fan of Govinda," she said. The fan’s father later arrived at their home with a fleet of cars to take her back. “She stayed with us for about 20 days. It just shows the kind of craze Govinda had among fans,” Sunita remarked.
Sunita on whether she ever felt insecure of Govinda's fan following
When asked if she ever felt insecure about the attention her husband received from other women, Sunita Ahuja expressed that it never really bothered her because he always returned home to her at the end of the day.
She explained, "Mereko farak nahi padta (It didn’t affect me). You have to be very confident in yourself. Abhi aadmi hai voh, aap aisa nahi bol sakte gaay hai koi aadmi. Hota hoga. Theek hai na, ghoom fir ke raat ko ghar hi aa jata hai na. (He is a man. You can’t say he is a cow. Things might be happening. It is okay, he came back home at night.)"
Though Govinda has been absent from the big screen since 2019, he was one of the top actors during the 80s and 90s.
