Gayatri Joshi And Vikas Oberoi Return To Mumbai After No Case Against Them In Italy Car Crash

New Delhi: Swades actor Gayatri Joshi and her businessman husband Vikas Oberoi returned to Mumbai on Friday, days after surviving a road accident in Sardinia, Italy in which a Swiss couple was killed. There were reports that Vikas was being probed for the accident but as per the latest reports, there was no prima facie case against the businessman.

According to CNBCTV18, there were no charges against Vikas Oberoi in the car crash case. The reports quoted a statement by Oberoi Realty, which read, "Our chairman and managing director Mr Vikas Oberoi and his wife Mrs Gayatri Oberoi had met with accident in Sardinia, Italy on 2nd October 2023. By God's grace, they both are unhurt and have returned back home to Mumbai safely."

According to the report, the State Department in Italy has appointed a technical expert to ascertain the cause of the accident.

The tragic accident involving a blue Lamborghini and a red Ferrari took place on Road 195 near the town of San Giovanni Suergiu.

Oberoi was driving the Lamborghini Huracan, which costs around Rs 4 crore in India, while the Swiss couple, Markus Krautli and his wife Melissa, were in the Ferrari, when several sportscars were speeding on the two-lane highway without a divider, as seen in viral videos.

An apparent case of overtaking while on the fast lane resulted in the ill-fated Ferrari hitting a camper van ahead and also the Lamborghini, as seen in videos of the incident shot by passing vehicles.

The camper van had an unknown number of local Italian tourists from South Tyrol, and the Oberois’ Lamborghini went under the large vehicle which also overturned, while the Ferrari with the Swiss couple burst into a ball of flames, killing the senior couple in it.

The Italian local authorities identified the two elderly deceased persons as Markus Krautli, 67, and his wife Melissa Krautli, 63, hailing from Wallisellen town near Zurich, Switzerland.

Oberoi, one of India’s richest tycoons, is the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Oberoi Realty, which is engaged in real estate development on multiple luxury projects in the western suburbs of Mumbai.
