Asansol Lok Sabha Result: TMC's Shatrughan Sinha Retains Seat With Win By Over 60,000 Votes

Asansol Lok Sabha Result: Shatrughan Sinha won the Asansol seat by defeating BJP's SS Ahluwalia with 59564 votes.

Asansol Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Asansol has seen a difficult battleground for TMC contender Shatrughan Sinha and  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contender SS Ahluwalia. The election for this seat was conducted and completed on May 13. Actor Shatrughan Sinha won the Asansol seat by defeating BJP's SS Ahluwalia with 59564 votes. Sinha garnered 605645 votes whereas Ahluwalia got 546081 votes.

The voter turnout in West Bengal was recorded as 69.89% in the 2024 elections.

The Asansol Lok Sabha seat has seven candidates running for election in 2024. The number of candidates for this seat increased from 7 in 2009 to 10 in 2019, 14 in 2014, and 10 in 2019.

About Shatrughan Sinha

Former Lok Sabha member and actor Shatrugan Sinha is a member of the TMC. He represented the Bihar's Patna Sahib seat. He has held the positions of Union Cabinet Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Shipping under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee administration, in addition to his time in the Rajya Sabha.

After being refused a ticket by the BJP in 2022, Sinha, who had previously been a member of the Indian National Congress, joined the TMC and ran against the BJP candidate in the Asansol by-election, which he won.

About SS Ahluwalia

SS Ahluwalia is the current representative for West Bengal's Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, having run for election as a BJP candidate. He had previously represented Darjeeling as well. Under P V Narasimha Rao, Ahluwalia oversaw the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

Asansol 2019 Results

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Babul Supriyo of the BJP party won the Asansol Constituency in West Bengal. Moon Moon Sen came in second place, losing behind Asansol by a margin of 1976,37 votes. Babul Supriyo received 6,333,78 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, giving him a victory margin of 1976,37 votes.

According to the early survey, the BJP was expected to get a larger number of seats in the state compared to the TMC in the majority of exit polls. Nonetheless, the outcome demonstrated that Shatrughan's adoring fans helped him secure the seat.
