Anushka Sharma Gets Legal Notice For Casteist Slur In ‘Paatal Lok’
Paatal Lok co-producer Anushka Sharma received a legal notice for an alleged casteist slur used in one of the scenes in the web series.
New Delhi: Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma has received appreciation from all the corners for her new web series ‘Paatal Lok’ on Amazon Prime. The cop thriller drama has been critically acclaimed for its storytelling and impeccable performances of the actors. Although, the web series is enjoying a good run on the OTT platform, it has landed in some legal trouble.
The ‘Zero’ actress, who has produced ‘Paatal Lok’ under her home banner Clean Slate Films, has received a legal notice over an alleged casteist slur used in one of the scenes in the show.
According to a report in Quint, Viren Sri Gurung, a member of the Lawyers Guild, has sent the legal notice to the ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ actress on May 18 over a casteist slur used on a Nepali character.
“There is a clip wherein during an interrogation a lady police officer uses a casteist slur on a Nepali character. There wouldn’t have been any problem had only ‘Nepali’ been used. But the word that follows it is unacceptable. Since Anushka Sharma is one of the producers of the show, we have served her a notice”, Gurung told the website.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh (BhaGoYuP) has started an online petition, demanding that the word gets muted and the subtitles are blurred from the episode. They also want the makers to upload edited video and issue an apology.
'Paatal Lok' stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Neeraj Kabi, Abhishek Banerjee, Gul Panag and Swastika Mukherjee.
