Amar Upadhyay Recalls Not Getting His Dues In The Industry Before 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'

Amar Upadhyay tells that he had almost decided to quit the entertainment industry if 'Mihir Virani' had not given him the success he had wished for.

New Delhi: Actor Amar Upadhyay who played the iconic character of Mihir Virani in the famous daily soap of Indian Television- ' Kyukii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' recalls not being able to get his dues in the industry before. He tells that he had almost decided to quit the entertainment industry if 'Mihir Virani' had not given him the success he had wished for.

Amar made this shocking revelation in a recent interview. "I was not getting my due in the industry in terms of fame before Mihir happened. I did not want to stay around for very long. I felt there was no point in being an actor if I didn’t experience the highest of highs.", he was quoted as saying by The Hindustan Times.

He further recalled about not being recognised in public and not getting the desired fame and said, "No one used to recognise me while I was walking on the street. 'Kyunki Saas...' was supposed to be my last project. I thought to myself, Agar yeh show Kuch Nahi Karta mere liye, toh I will switch my profession and do something else. But then destiny had other plans."

Additionally, he acknowledged that he gave Mihir Virani's persona everything he could in order to make it wildly successful. He also mentioned that he used to film nonstop for 17 to 18 hours each day.

"As an actor, I did all kinds of research and learnt from people around me. Till the last shot, I gave it my best. Today, when I look back, I can say that Mihir became what it is today because of my hard work. Even after 22 years, people call me by that name. For me, it was a god sent opportunity, as my life changed after that", he told the Hindustan Times.

Upadhyay attributes his successful acting career, which he continued to work on while juggling other assignments, to an Anupam Kher interview he had read at the time.

“Many many years ago, I read this interview where Anupam sir said, ‘One needs to keep his diary packed. You don’t have to increase your fees, you don’t need to use your success as a reason to ask for more work from people. You just have to keep working constantly.’ And I did that. I kept on working non-stop. May be, that’s why I managed to stay in this industry for so long,”, said Amar at the end.

Amar was recently seen in the role of Uday Thakur in the movie 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' and as Rama in 'Jai Hanuman - Sankat Mochan Naam Tiharo'. He has also won several awards including the Indian Television Academy Awards and the Kalakar Awards for Best Actor popular for his incredible work in 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.'
