Exclusive: Sudhir Mishra Talks About His Recent Tweet Regarding Those Who Criticise Vivek Agnihotri. Says, 'The Audiences Are Becoming Lazy'

Sudhir Mishra, who has been in the industry for over four decades has witnessed the paradigm shift with time and told ABP Live that he misses the "bonhomie" that was present in the older days.

New Delhi: Sudhir Mishra's recent movie 'Afwaah' talks about the negative power of social media and rumours that can cause havoc in society. Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bhumi Pednekar and Sumeet Vyas, this is a one-of-a-kind movie that leaves the audience pondering even after it's over. In a recent conversation with ABP Live, Sudhir Mishra not only said that "the film takes people through a journey", but also shared tidbits about other aspects of the film industry as well.

Sudhir Mishra, who has been in the industry for over four decades has witnessed the paradigm shift with time and told that he misses the "bonhomie" that was present in the older days.

He said, "People are doing one film at a time, so there is a lot of organization, but people are not that much attached to each other in the unit. For example, when Raj Kapoor made films, or the earlier generation made films they were all together- the singers, music directors, writers, and actors. That kind of bonhomie and the ability to spend time with each other and to nurture a film together and soak it in, that is missing."

But, he is also quite appreciative of today's director and really loves the works of so many.

"There are so many I like. I like Amit Masoorkar who made 'Newton', Abhishek Choubay who made 'Udta Punjab', then there is also Vasant Bala who made 'Monica Oh! My Darling', Vikram Aditya Motwaane- there are so many good directors today."

Not just Hindi cinema, Sudhir Mishra considers himself a part of the entire film industry and appreciates films in other languages as well.

"The Marathi cinema is out of the path. I love to watch Malayali films and Tamil films. Bengal is a part of my heritage. So, there are so many good directors. Today that's the advantage, as there are so many streaming platforms and OTT because of which everything is available. So OTT is doing a lot for the unity of the film industries in India."

He also discussed his recent tweet where he said, "Liberals complain about Kashmir Files. Why? Vivek Agnihotri made a film and his audience came to theatres and saw it. But when we make films our audience who criticise Vivek sit on their arse and don’t come to the theatre. Sorry, I had to say it.", after which he has also done a podcast with Vivek Agnihotri.

Talking about it with ABP Live, Sudhir Mishra said, "I am trying to say that the audiences are becoming lazy. There is condescension among the young.", and then continued by saying "Your moms were way cooler than you are. She likes Smita Patil. Your dads were way cooler than you are. They like Om Puri and so many others. So, why do you say 'Arre jab hamara time aaya toh hi sab badal gaya. Aise thodi hai na. Smita jaisi koi actress mili? Om Puri star tha, Deepti Naval star thi, Shabana Azmi bohot badi star thi. Yeh sab toh aapke parents ke generation ke hai na! Aap apne pe kyun le rahe ho ki hum hi aayein toh... Prove to me that you are way cooler than your moms."

Speaking about the movie 'Afwaah', ABPLive review of the movie read: “Perhaps, time and again, we will need a filmmaker like Sudhir Mishra to remind us what cinema can do and sometimes, as an art form, should do amidst mindless entertainment and mediocre content consumption we have become slaves of; on social media or to the technology we created to make our lives easier.”
