The Congress Party released its list of star campaigners for the upcoming assembly election in Tripura after announcing 17 candidates for the polls.

New Delhi: The Congress Party on Saturday released its list of star campaigners for the upcoming assembly election in Tripura. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Rahul Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra feature in the list of campaigners.

Congress Chief Ministers Bhupesh Baghel, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Ashok Gehlot, senior leaders Sachin Pilot, Gaurav Gogoi, Pawan Khera, and Supriya Srinate are also on the list.

Besides them, other names include Kanhaiya Kumar, B.V. Srinivas, Jignesh Mevani, and Alka Lamba.

A four-cornered fight is expected between BJP, Congress, Left, and Trinamool Congress in Tripura where the BJP has changed the CM face to beat anti-incumbency. In 2018, the saffron party won 35 seats and unseated the 20-year incumbent CM, Manik Sarkar of CPI(M).

Earlier in the day, the Congress announced a list of 17 candidates for the upcoming Tripura Assembly Election. Lone MLA of the party, Sudip Roy Barman, would be contesting from the Agartala seat.

The Tripura Assembly election schedule, announced by the Election Commission on January 18, remains unchanged, Chief Electoral Officer Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao said on Friday, citing "confusing posts" on various social media sites.

With the election to the 60-seat Tripura assembly would be held on February 16, the last date for filing nomination papers is January 30 and the scrutiny of papers and relevant documents would be done the next day. The last date for withdrawal of the candidatures is February 2.

The vote will be counted on March 2.

20 out of 60 seats were dominated by tribals in the last assembly elections held in the state. In the 2018 Tripura legislative assembly election, BJP won 33 seats, the IPFT won 4 seats, the CPI(M) won 15 seats, and the Congress won 1 seat.
