Telangana Couple Stunned As Voter ID Cards List Their Age As 123

A couple in Hanamkonda district's Kamalapur mandal was taken aback when they discovered their newly-issued voter ID cards listed their age as 123 years.

A couple residing in Kamalapur mandal, within Hanamkonda district, Telangana, found themselves in a bewildering situation when their recently issued voter ID cards displayed their age as 123 years, leaving them in utter disbelief, news agency PTI reported on Saturday.

Kodepaka Kotilingam, a 44-year-old resident, and his wife Kodepaka Padma, aged 42, recently registered for voting as part of the Election Commission of India's (ECI) ongoing voter enrollment campaign. However, their excitement soon turned into shock and dismay as they received their voter identity cards, which bore their date of birth as 1-1-1900.

"When I applied for a voter ID card, I stated my birth year as 1979. The officials also recorded the same information. However, upon receiving the new ID card, the card displayed my and my wife's age as 123 years, indicating that I was born in 1900," he was quoted as saying by PTI.

Kotilingam, perplexed by the egregious error, expressed that he had provided the correct details during the voter enrollment process, making this situation all the more confounding. He visited the Mandal Revenue Office (MRO) to report the error but was met with laughter from officials who advised him to complete a rectification form.

"To my surprise, when I visited a Mee Seva Centre to verify it, I found that the same error was present on our voter ID cards," Kotilingam told Deccan Chronical.

In response to this unexpected turn of events, Kotilingam is urging the relevant authorities to promptly rectify the error and reissue correct voter ID cards for him and his wife.
