China-Made Drone Found In Bhopal Jail Was Bought By Doctor For His Son, Probe Launched
A China-made drone was found in Bhopal Central Jail, raising security concerns. The drone, with two cameras, was discovered near the high-security 'anda cells' housing terrorists.
In a matter of grave concern regarding security lapse at Bhopal Central Jail, a China-made drone was found inside its premises on Wednesday afternoon. The discovery of drone in the high-security zone of the jail has raised serious question about the risk oversights. As reported by NDTV, the drone reportedly lay undetected for eight days before it located by one of the staffs in the jail.
As per the information, the light-weight drone was spotted by a duty guard near B block, which is section close to the high-security 'anda cells', that houses inmates linked to terrorism and anti-national activities. 'Anda Cell' is so called because of their oblong shape.
Jail superintendent Rakesh Kumar Bangre told news agency PTI that a security guard near B-block building inside the prison spotted the black drone. The Chinese-made UAV, which was discovered between 3.30 pm and 4 pm on Wednesday, was charged and it weighed 30 to 40 gm, the superintendent added.
According to NDTV, Rakesh Kumar said that there was some misunderstanding, which is why the guard may not have noticed the drone initially. As per the officials, the drone is equipped with two cameras and it has been claimed by a local doctor, who bought it for his son. Later, Bhopal Police Commissioner Hari Narayanchari Mishra, along with his team, tested the drone and confirmed the doctor's claim.
Superintendent Bangre told that the drone went out of control on December 31 and fell near the Anda Cell. The jail's security team found it and have identified its owner, he added.
While speaking to the reporters, Narendra Shivaji Patel, a minister in the Mohan Yadav-led Madhya Pradesh cabinet said that "If anyone saw the drone first, it was our security team." He also praised the vigilance of the security personnel.
The minister also assured that an investigation is underway. "Due to the alertness of our jail management, the drone has been recovered. A comprehensive investigation is underway", he stated.
The Bhopal Central Jail is spread over 151 acres and houses more than 65 terrorists linked to organisation such as Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
