Rajasthan Urban Body Bypolls: Setback For Congress As BJP Wins 8 Of 14 Seats
The urban local body byelection was held for 14 seats across 12 districts of Rajasthan on May 7 in which BJP won 8 out 14 seats, while incumbent Congress won 4 and Independents secured 2 seats
The incumbent Congress party in Rajasthan won 4 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party secured 8 seats and Independents 2 in the urban local body byelection held for 14 seats across 12 districts of the state. As per a report by news agency ANI, the results were announced on Monday for the bypolls conducted on Sunday.
"Out of a total of 14 ward councilors, eight candidates have been elected from the Bharatiya Janata Party, four candidates from the Congress, and two candidates have been elected as independents," said State Election Commissioner Madhukar Gupta, reported the news agency.
Congratulating party workers for the victory, Rajasthan BJP chief CP Joshi said that people have sounded the poll bugle against the Congress rule in the state.

"The result proved that the people have sounded the bugle against the misrule, corruption, and jungle raj of the Congress," Joshi said, as per the report.
"The results of the municipal by-elections have proved that the countdown for the Gehlot government has begun," he said in a statement, the report added.
The civic body bypolls were conducted for the seats which fell vacant till January 31, 2023.

The public notice regarding the bypolls was issued on April 21, and the last date for filing nominations was April 25. Nomination papers were reviewed by poll officers on April 26 and candidates had the option to withdraw their candidature till April 28.
Election symbols were allotted on April 29 and polling took place on May 7 from 8 am to 5 pm while the votes were counted the next day, May 8.
Byelections for 4 members of Zilla Parishad, 24 members of Panchayat Samiti, 48 posts of Sarpanch, and 471 posts of Panch also took place the same day.
The bypolls become crucial as Rajasthan is slated to undergo assembly polls later this year.
