Rajasthan Election: Rs 15 Lakh Insurance, Yearly Allowance To Women Among Congress's 7 Guarantees

The Congress has assured the voters of Rajasthan that it will implement seven welfare initiatives, or "7 Guarantees", if it returns to power.

The Congress has released a list of seven "guarantees" ahead of the upcoming Rajasthan elections. While releasing the list of the guarantees on Friday, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot assured voters of bringing back the Old Pension Scheme and a yearly allowance for women heads of families. Elections to the 200-seat Rajasthan Assembly will be held on November 23.

Here are the party's seven guarantees:

  • Rs 10,000 every year to the woman head of the family.
  • Purchase of cow dung at Rs 2 per kg
  • Laptop or tablet for first-year government college students
  • Free insurance of up to Rs 15 lakh for families affected by natural disasters.
  • Guarantee of English-medium education to every student
  • Cylinders for Rs 500 to 1 crore families
  • Old Pension Scheme

While announcing the guarantees, CM Gehlot said: "Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge say that 'fulfil the promises that you make'. Last time, Rahul Gandhi promised to waive off loans (of farmers) in seven days, and the promise was fulfilled in due time."

CM Ashok Gehlot said, "Congress chief [of Rajasthan] has done so much advertisement of the government's policies, programs, decisions...However, the Enforcement Directorate reached his home. It is only targeting him as he speaks a lot against the [central] government." Gehlot was talking about the ED raids on the premises of Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra in Jaipur and Sikar as part of a money laundering probe into the exam paper leak case.

The Congress is trying to retain power in Rajasthan, riding on its claims of good governance, especially in social welfare. The BJP on the other hand is trying to wrest power, accusing the Congress of being apathetic to "rising crimes against women in the state".

BJP MP PP Chaudhary said, "In Rajasthan, the tolerance power of the common people is getting over. In one month, when the elections are about to happen, only the common people will take a sigh of relief. In Rajasthan, minors and women are facing sexual harassment... There is bad governance in Rajasthan. Congress's Gehlot government has done the work of bringing Rajasthan on top in the case of rapes"
