Harbhajan Singh Retirement: With the latest announcement, there is speculation over Harbhajan Singh starting his political career ahead of the Punjab election.

Harbhajan Singh Retirement: Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has announced retirement from International Cricket. He made an announcement in this regard on Friday.

Harbhajan Singh's cricket career spans 23 years where he led Team India to victory in several matches.

With the announcement of his retirement from cricket, speculations are rife over whether Harbhajan Singh is going to start his political innings soon. Even though he had been inactive in cricket, the timing of Harbhajan's retirement announcement comes close to the assembly election in Punjab. Hence, there are speculations of him entering the political field.

Recently, there were reports that Harbhajan may contest on a Congress ticket. It was being rumoured that the party could make him a candidate from his home turf Jalandhar.

Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu had also hinted that Harbhajan may join the Congress party soon. He had tweeted a photo with Harbhajan writing: "Picture loaded with possibilities …. With Bhajji the shining star".

When asked about the tweet, Sidhu had said that the picture says everything, that it is full of possibilities.

An Indian Express report also stated that Navjot Sidhu was trying to contact Harbhajan Singh to get him to join Congress for the party to gain a strong edge in the Doaba region.

There was also talk of joining BJP

Recently, there were rumours that Harbhajan might join BJP but he dismissed them saying that there was no truth in the reports of him joining the saffron party.

While he rejected reports of joining BJP, he has remained silent on speculation of him joining Congress. Now, an official statement from Congress and Harbhajan Singh is awaited in this regard as Punjab is set to go to the polls early next year.
