Backwardness Was Once Tripura's Fate But State Now An Important Trade Corridor: PM Modi

PM Modi also launched key initiatives: Mukhyamantri Tripura Gram Samriddhi Yojana and Project Mission 100 of Vidyajyoti Schools in Tripura.

Agartala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the New Integrated Terminal Building at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala after a detailed inspection on Tuesday.

After inaugurating the building, PM Modi also addressed the event where he said that the India of the 21st century will move forward by taking everyone along, with everyone's development and everyone's efforts.

PM also said that backwardness was once Tripura's fate but the state has now become an important trade corridor

"Some states should be behind, some states keep longing for basic facilities, this unbalanced development is not good. This is what the people of Tripura have seen for decades," he said. 

While hitting out at previous government in Tripura, Prime Minister said that earlier, there was rampant corruption and no development. 

"The previous government neither had vision nor intention of development of Tripura," the Prime Minister said.

"I had assured 'HIRA' (H-Highways, I- infrastructure, R-Railways, A-Airport) development in Tripura. Work is underway to develop Tripura as a gateway to the northeast," he added.

"We are working to develop Tripura as the gateway to connectivity in the Northeast. Tripura is now becoming a trade corridor in the region," the Prime Minister said adding that several initiatives connected by rail/road has started transforming the region.

During his visit to the northeastern state, PM Modi also launched key initiatives: Mukhyamantri Tripura Gram Samriddhi Yojana and Project Mission 100 of Vidyajyoti Schools in Tripura.

The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to northeastern states - Manipur and Tripura where he is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation for over 25 projects worth Rs 5,500 crore.

According to reports, PM Modi will also virtually kick-start the campaign for the Assembly elections in Manipur and rejuvenate the party in Tripura ahead of next year's polls.
