'They Toppled Govts Like Castle Of Cards': PM Modi Hits Back At Congress On 'Democracy Under Threat' Remark

Modi In MP's Hoshangabad: Rebuffing Congress’s remarks PM said that the grand old party used to demolish democratic governments across the country, like a “castle of cards”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday delivered a blistering critique of the Congress party. In response to the grand old party’s “Democracy under threat” remarks, PM Modi said it was the Constitution of India, laid out by Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar that enabled him and President Droupadi Murmu, an Adivasi leader, to take the highest offices in the country. Rebuffing Congress’s remarks PM said that the grand old party used to demolish democratic governments across the country, like a “castle of cards”.

Speaking to the crowd in Madhya Pradesh's Hoshangabad, PM Modi said, “Today is the birth anniversary of Constitution maker Babasaheb Ambedkar. His birthplace Mhow is not far from here. We got the privilege of giving him the respect which the Congress party never gave him and parties like Congress have always worked to insult Babasaheb.“

“Because of the Constitution created by Babasaheb, today Modi, son of a poor mother, is seeking your blessings to serve for the third time,” he added further.

Criticising the grand old party’s “historical dominance”, PM Modi said, “For a decade, a single family had wielded power directly or through proxies. They often disregarded democratic norms of the country.”

Further recalling the era of Emergency imposed by the Congress, the PM said, “This family had imposed an Emergency in the country. The Congress used to demolish democratic governments across the country whenever they wanted, like a ‘castle of cards’.”

The Prime Minister also emphasised the widespread support for his leadership.

In an apparent attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi said, The desperate Congress is making such announcements which even the Congress leaders themselves are unable to understand. The prince of Congress has announced that he will eliminate poverty in the country in one stroke! The whole country is shocked to hear this. The country is asking where was this royal magician hiding for so many years”.

Further paying tributes to Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s initiatives aimed at digital empowerment. “BHIM UPI which you use for digital payments, we've named it after Babasaheb Ambedkar”.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with top BJP officials unveiled its "Sankalp Patra", election manifesto, titled, "Modi Ki Guarantee" for the Lok Sabha polls.
