Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a public meeting in West Bengal's Barasat on Tuesday. He will hold another public meeting in Kolkata's Jadavpur at 4 PM and then embark on a roadshow in North Kolkata at 6 PM.

The last leg of PM Modi's election campaign in Kolkata comes amid the imposition of Section 144 till July 26. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, while issuing the guidelines, said: "Section 144 is being imposed on the roads of Kolkata for two months from Tuesday. Political programmes are going on in Kolkata. Due to this, there is a possibility of certain elements creating unrest in the city. Therefore, the police have issued a notification forbidding the assembly of five or more people on the streets."

While the police had earlier said it was a routine procedure and that the order was renewed every two months, the BJP called it a conspiracy by the Trinamool government to create hurdles for PM Modi's roadshow.
