Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: As Shatrughan Sinha Notches Win For TMC, A Quick Look Back At Mamata Banerjee's 'Outsider' Snide
Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Apart from Sinha, a couple of other so-called 'outsiders' have also garnered notable leads in the elections for TMC.
Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) is comfortably set to emerge as the majority party in West Bengal. As per the latest counting data, TMC has taken a lead in 29 seats out of the total 42, seeing over 46 per cent of the total votes in the state, at the time of writing. Interestingly enough, harkening back to Banerjee's dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling them "Bohiragoto Jomidars" (outsider landlords), a non-resident of West Bengal has emerged as the first victor for TMC.
Shatrughan Sinha, the Lok Sabha MP originally hailing from Patna, Bihar, has emerged victorious in the Asansol seat, winning by 63,000 votes. Sinha has defeated runner-up Surinderjeet Singh Ahluwalia of BJP.
Apart from Sinha, a couple of other so-called 'outsiders' have also garnered notable leads in the Lok Sabha elections for TMC.
Yusuf Pathan, the Vadodara-born cricketer, is contesting for TMC in the Baharampur seat, going up against veteran Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. At the time of writing, as per ECI data, he has garnered a lead of over 58,000 votes against Chowdhury.
On the other hand, Kirti Azad, another former cricketer hailing from Purnia, is currently leading by over 1.38 lakh votes against BJP's Dilip Ghosh in the seat of Bardhaman-Durgapur.

What Did Mamata Banerjee Say Against 'Outsiders'?
Earlier in March, ahead of TMC's Brigade Rally, Banerjee said, "Bengal's patience & courtesy should not be mistaken for its weakness. The Bohiragoto Jomidars must be reminded of this on March 10."

How Did BJP Respond?
Amit Malviya, BJP's West Bengal co-in-charge tweeted that TMC's candidate list itself was full of 'outsiders'. "Shame on her divisive politics, which is holding back West Bengal," Malviya said.
