Congress Refutes Reports Of Kamal Nath Quitting Party's MP Chief Post, Calls News 'False & Baseless'

Kamal Nath on Thursday resigned as the chief of Madhya Pradesh Congress after the party's defeat in the recently concluded Assembly polls

The Congress party on Thursday refuted the reports of Kamal Nath quitting as the president of party's Madhya Pradesh unit. The clarification comes after several media houses reported that Nath resigned from the post earlier in the day after the party's crushing defeat in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly polls.

"The news regarding resignation of State Congress President and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath is completely false and baseless," said the party's state unit in a post on X.

"Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee denies this."

Speculations were rife earlier this week that Nath would meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and tender his resignation from the post.

According to a report by PTI quoting sources, the Congress top brass is also upset with Nath over his remark against many leaders of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar, over seat sharing.

The party leadership was said to be upset with Nath also for not meeting party leaders and workers, but meeting Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday, the PTI report added.
