Madhya Pradesh assembly elections 2018: Madhya Pradesh will vote on Wednesday. Polling for its 230 seats will be held tomorrow in a single phase. People will either give the BJP a fourth successive term in power notwithstanding anti-incumbency or give a chance to the challenger Congress to break the saffron party's monopoly over power for the last 15 years. The contest in the state is mainly between the BJP and Congress though the Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party are also in the fray. However, in some figures that have been accumulated by ABP News ahead of Madhya Pradesh assembly poll, around 17% of candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves, while 11% candidates are facing serious criminal charges. In the list of crorepati candidates, out of the 2,716 analysed, 656 are crorepatis. Read on for more astonishing figures that suggest candidates belonging to the criminal background:

Candidates belonging to the Criminal Background

Candidates with Criminal Cases - Out of 2716 candidates analyzed, 464 (17%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.

Candidates with Serious Criminal Cases - 295 (11%) candidates have declared serious criminal cases, including cases related to bribery, causing death by negligence, criminal intimidation etc.

Candidates with cases related to Murder - 16 candidates have declared cases related to murder (Indian Penal Code Section-302).

Candidates with cases related to Attempt to Murder - 24 candidates have declared cases related to attempt to murder (Indian Penal Code Section-307).

Candidates with cases related to Kidnapping - 6 candidates have declared cases related to kidnapping such as Kidnapping or abducting in order to murder (IPC Section-364), and Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person (IPC Section-365).

Candidates with cases related to Crime against Women - 20 candidates have declared cases related to crime against women such as Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty (IPC Section-498A), , and Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty (IPC Section-354)

BJP - 65 (30%) out of 220 candidates analysed

BSP - 37 (17%) out of 214 candidates analysed

Congress – 55 (25%) out of 223 candidates analysed

BJP - 38 (17%) out of 220 candidates analysed

AAP – 30 (15%) out of 206 candidates analysed

BSP - 22 (10%) out of 214 candidates analysed

Sanjay Sharma of Congress Party – Rs. 130 crore (contesting from Tendukheda constituency of Narshinghpur district)
