'PM Modi Tearing Apart Country's Dignity, Democracy': Sonia Gandhi Alleges 'Conspiracy To Change Constitution'

Congress Veteran Sonia Gandhi claimed that the country's democracy is under threat under the Modi government, with democratic institutions being undermined and a conspiracy to change the constitution.

Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of eroding the country's dignity and democracy. Speaking at an election event in Rajasthan's Jaipur on Saturday, she criticised the Modi government's policies and alleged attempts to coerce opposition leaders into joining the BJP.

She lambasted the Modi government for its handling of various issues, including unemployment, inflation, economic crisis, and inequality. The Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) claimed that the country's democracy is under threat, with democratic institutions being undermined and a conspiracy to change the constitution.

"The idea of being above the country cannot even be thought of in dreams. Can anyone be bigger than the country? Those who think so, the people of the country teach them a lesson. Unfortunately, today we have leaders in our country who are in power. Modi ji considers himself great and is tearing apart the dignity of the country and its democracy," Gandhi remarked.

She added, "Various tactics are being used to intimidate opposition leaders, to coerce them into joining the BJP. Today, the democracy of our country is in danger. Democratic institutions are being destroyed by the tools of political power. Not only this, there is a conspiracy to change our constitution. Fear is being spread throughout the system. This is all dictatorship, and we all will respond to it."

Citing the independence movement, the veteran Congress leader said, "Our great ancestors, in the darkness of their struggles, found the sun of the country's independence with the strength of their resolve. After so many years, that great light has dimmed somewhat. The darkness of injustice has increased all around. We all must resolve to fight against it and seek the light of justice."

She also alleged, "Our country has been under the rule of a government for the past ten years that has not spared any effort to promote unemployment, inflation, economic crisis, inequality, and atrocities."

In response to the challenges faced by the opposition, Sonia Gandhi expressed confidence in the resilience of Congress members. She affirmed her belief that Congress leaders would uphold the values of justice and democracy, reaching every corner of the country with the party's manifesto.

As Soon As Corrupt People Join BJP, They Become Clean: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

Echoing her mother's sentiments, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the party's national general secretary, raised concerns about the alleged targeting of opposition leaders by federal agencies under the BJP rule. She cited the arrests of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren as examples of the opposition being under attack.

"Today the Modi government is attacking the entire opposition. Two Chief Ministers are in jail. They say that this is an attack on corruption, but they are gathering all the corrupt people in their party. As soon as corrupt people join BJP, they become clean. Then no one raises questions about them. You have to understand all these things, because the vote you are going to cast will be to save the democracy of the country," she said.

Priyanka Gandhi emphasised the importance of justice in the party's manifesto, named 'Nyay Patra'. She assured that the manifesto represents the voice of the nation seeking justice and promised to uphold the principles outlined in it.
