The man accused in the incident arrived at the hospital with minor injuries following a late-night road accident on Saturday.
Kerala police reported that a doctor was allegedly assaulted and verbally abused by a patient who accused him of inadequate treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. The incident came to light after CCTV footage of the patient, believed to be intoxicated, showed him attempting to assault the male doctor. The incident took place at a private hospital in Kodenchery.
Later in the day, the doctor filed a complaint with the police regarding the incident.
On Saturday, the man accused in the incident arrived at the hospital with minor injuries following a late-night road accident, as per the police. Although he received the necessary treatment and was discharged, he returned later and reportedly became aggressive, attempting to assault the doctor who had previously treated him.
Dr. Susmith, who was allegedly assaulted, stated that the patient also behaved inappropriately towards him and his female colleague.
"He not only tried to attack us but also used very abusive language against us. He even tried to hit me with a stone. I was forced to push him away as I faced a threat to my life," the doctor told the media, as per a report on PTI.
The doctor further claimed that the accused even made threats against his five-month-old son.
In response, the Kodenchery police registered a case against the accused man following the doctor's complaint.
The police said that he was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act. They added that an investigation was progressing and further action would be taken soon in this regard.
