I.N.D.I.A Bloc Parties To Contest In Bengal To Defeat BJP, TMC: Sitaram Yechury

CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said, that the party's appeal has always been to defeat BJP and defeat TMC in order to save democracy in India and Bengal.

New Delhi: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday attacked the Trinamool Congress for declaring its seats for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls saying that the I.N.D.I.A bloc parties will have to will fight to defeat the BJP and TMC. The TMC on Sunday announced its candidates for all 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal. Marking a significant overhaul, it replaced seven sitting MPs and introduced several new faces.

According to PTI, when asked about the TMC's decision to go solo in West Bengal, Yechury said, "Every party has the right to take decisions. If TMC has announced, it is a clear indication that rest of the parties will have to sit together and decide how to proceed in fighting these elections in Bengal."

"Our line has always been very clear. We are asking all secular forces in Bengal to come together to defeat the BJP and the TMC, which actually has taken such unilateral decisions... CPI(M)'s appeal has always been to defeat BJP and defeat TMC in order to save democracy in India and Bengal", he said.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has opted out of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, a major opposition alliance aimed at countering the BJP, which includes parties like the Congress and the CPI(M). Instead, the TMC has declared its intention to contest the Lok Sabha polls in the state of West Bengal independently. The Congress leaders have expressed their desire to negotiate a seat-sharing arrangement in the state, as per PTI.
