Did I.N.D.I.A Offer PM Post To JD(U) Chief Nitish Kumar? Congress Responds To KC Tyagi's Claim

A day before PM-designated Narendra Modi's oath-taking ceremony, JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi had claimed on Saturday that the PM post was offered to Nitish Kumar if he joined back the Opposition alliance.

In response to Janta Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi's claim that Nitish Kumar was offered the Prime Minister post by the I.N.D.I.A bloc, Congress leader K.C. Venugopal on Saturday said that the grand old party does not have "any such information".

Addressing a press conference on June 8, Venugopal said, "We don't have any such information?" Echoing similar sentiments, Congress senior leader Digvijay Singh, "They are lying".

Soon after the party leaders were asked about the claims made by the JD(U) leader, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh immediately changed the topic and reflected on the Congres party's performance in the Lok Sabha elections. "In every state where our performance has been less than our expectations, a committee will be formed. That committee will thoroughly review the results and will present its report to the Congress President as soon as possible," he remarked.

A day before PM-designated Narendra Modi's oath-taking ceremony, JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi had claimed on Saturday that the Prime Minister post was offered to Nitish Kumar if he joined back the Opposition alliance, the bloc he had initiated a year ago. Tyagi told ABP News that despite this offer, Nitish Kumar chose to remain with the BJP-led NDA.

Tyagi further stated that the Prime Minister has sent a clear message to critics of the election process and EVMs. "JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu's TDP contested the elections as part of the NDA under PM Modi. We have extended our support to the leadership of PM Modi for the next five years," he added.

This statement from Tyagi came a day after Narendra Modi was elected as the leader of the Lok Sabha and the leader of the BJP and NDA in the House.

On the same day, the Congress leaders connected its CWC meeting to elect the Leader of the Parliamentary committee and the Leader of the party in Lok Sabha. While Sonia Gandhi was likely to be elected as the parliamentary committee chairperson, Congress leaders pushed for Rahul Gandhi to be the party's leader and the I.N.D.I.A bloc's leader in the Lok Sabha.
