Friday witnessed voting in 14 Lok Sabha seats out of the 28 in Karnataka, with the remaining 14 scheduled for polls on May 7. These constituencies include Bagalkot, Belgaum, Bijapur, Chikkodi, Davangere, Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Ballari, Koppal, Raichur, Shimoga, and Uttara Kannada.
The BJP has historically performed strongly in Karnataka’s Lok Sabha election, securing 25 out of 28 seats in the 2019 polls, with the Congress winning one seat.
As the saffron party aims to replicate its previous track record, the Congress is striving to maintain its presence in the state.
The potential alliance of the Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities could significantly influence Karnataka’s political battleground. Lingayats, the largest community in Karnataka, and Vokkaligas, the second largest, hold significant sway. Notably, JDS chief HD Deve Gowda and Congress state president DK Shivakumar hail from the Vokkaliga community.
The third phase of elections, scheduled for May 7, will see polling in 94 constituencies across 12 states and union territories, with results expected on June 4. Click here for all the live updates coming straight from the political battleground of the country.
