Shimoga: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, B. S. Yeddyurappa from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 363305 votes. The polling / voting in Shimoga constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s B Y Raghavendra and Janata Dal (Secular)#s Madhu Bangarappa

Shimoga 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 17 out of the 28 parliamentary seat with 43 percent vote share while the Indian National Congress managed to win just 9 seats with a 40.8 percent vote share.

Out of the 13 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Shimoga, 10 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of B. S. Yeddyurappa of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Manjunath Bhandary by a margin of 363305 votes.

• 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 76145 votes BJP candidate S. Bangarappa had got 450097 while INC got Ayanur Manjunath votes.
• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 95038 votes INC candidate S.Bangarappa had got 427870 while BJP got Ayanur Manjunatha votes.
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Ayanoor Manjunath attained 352277 votes and INC's D.B.Chandre Gowda bagged 192370 votes.
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, KCP candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 72236 votes KCP candidate S Bangarappa had got 303152 while BJP got Ayanur Manjunatha votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 40703 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader K.G. Shivappa attained 281182 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate B.S. Yediyurappa bagged 240479 votes
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JD candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate T.V.Chandrashekarappa attained 269074 votes and JD's M.Kotoji Rao bagged 128704 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate T. V. Chandrashekarappa attained 299038 votes and BJP's D. G. Shivannagowda bagged 175364 votes.
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate S.T. Quadri attained 246328 votes and JNP's D.H. Shankara Murthy bagged 94530 votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BLD candidate by a margin of 74836 votes INC candidate A. R. Badarinarayan had got 236065 while BLD got J. H. Patel votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated SSP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate T. V. Chandrashekarappa Veerabasappa attained 211553 votes and SSP's J. H. Patel bagged 79111 votes.
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, SSP candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 26054 votes. Here, SSP leader J. H. Patel attained 161262 votes and INC candidate H.S. Rudrappa bagged 135208 votes
• 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated PSP candidate with a difference of 13747 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader S. V. Krishnamoorthy Rao attained 119250 votes and PSP candidate V. K. Lakshmana Gowda bagged 105503 votes
• 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated PSP candidate by a margin of 64888 votes INC candidate K. G. Wodeyar had got 138046 while PSP got T. L. Kallaiah votes.
• 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated SP candidate by a margin of 55271 votes INC candidate K. G. Wodeyar had got 108990 while SP got T. L. Kalliah votes.
