Sambalpur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Nagendra Kumar Pradhan from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won the elections by a margin of 30576 votes. The polling / voting in Sambalpur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Nitesh Ganga Deb and Biju Janata Dal#s Nalin Pradhan

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Biju Janata Dal won 20 out of the 21 parliamentary seat with 44.1 percent vote share while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 21.5 percent vote share.

• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Biju Janata Dal candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 24768 votes. Here, Biju Janata Dal leader Prasanna Acharya attained 310870 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Dr. Krupasindhu Bhoi bagged 286102 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JD candidate by a margin of 84507 votes INC candidate Krupasindhu Bhoi had got 292894 while JD got Bijaya Singh Bariha votes.
