Salempur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Ravindra Kushawaha from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 232342 votes. The polling / voting in Salempur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 7 on 19 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Ravindra Kushawaha and Bahujan Samaj Party#s R S Kushwaha

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

• 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Samajwadi Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 16253 votes. Here, Samajwadi Party leader Harikeval Prasad attained 195570 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Bhola Pandey bagged 179317 votes
• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party here Bahujan Samaj Party candidate defeated his Samajwadi Party counterpart with a difference of 9050 votes.
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, SAP candidate defeated Samajwadi Party candidate with a difference of 39021 votes. Here, SAP leader Hari Kewal Prasad attained 219450 votes and Samajwadi Party candidate Hari Bansh Sahai bagged 180429 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Samajwadi Party candidate defeated SAP candidate with a difference of 35696 votes. Here, Samajwadi Party leader Harivansh Sahay attained 156427 votes and SAP candidate Harikeval Prashad bagged 120731 votes
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 44567 votes. Here, JD leader Harikewal attained 139167 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Rambelash bagged 94600 votes
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Hari Kewal attained 245235 votes and INC's Ram Nagina Misra bagged 110209 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated LKD candidate by a margin of 60536 votes INC candidate Ram Nagina Misra had got 152231 while LKD got Janeshwar Misra votes.
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated JNP(S) candidate with a difference of 15954 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Ram Nagina Misra attained 121340 votes and JNP(S) candidate Ram Naresh Kushwaha bagged 105386 votes
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Ram Naresh Kushwaha attained 253659 votes and INC's Tarkeshwar Pandey bagged 72738 votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated SSP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Tarkeshwar Panday attained 168109 votes and SSP's Ugrasen bagged 65308 votes.
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated SSP candidate with a difference of 24301 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader V. Pandey attained 86702 votes and SSP candidate R. Naresh bagged 62401 votes
• 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated SOC candidate with a difference of 24483 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Vishwanath Pandey attained 66351 votes and SOC candidate Raj Kumar bagged 41868 votes
