Background

Sabarkantha: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Rathod Dipsinh Shankarsinh from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 84455 votes. The polling / voting in Sabarkantha constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Dipsinh Rathod and Congress Party#s Rajendra thakor

Sabarkantha 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 26 out of the 26 parliamentary seat with 60.11 percent vote share while the Indian National Congress managed to win just seats with a 33.45 percent vote share.

Out of the 10 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Sabarkantha, 8 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Rathod Dipsinh Shankarsinh of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Shankersinh Vaghela Bapu by a margin of 84455 votes.

  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 14376 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Nisha Amarsinh Chaudhary attained 334565 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Patel Kanubhai Ravjibhai bagged 320189 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janta Party here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his Bharatiya Janta Party counterpart with a difference of 9866 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 40611 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Nisha Amarsinh Chaudhary attained 223754 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Arvind Trivedi (Lankesh) bagged 183143 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated JD(G) candidate with a difference of 36418 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Arvind Trivedi (Lankesh) attained 168704 votes and JD(G) candidate Maganbhai Manibhai Patel bagged 132286 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Maganbhai Manibhai Patel attained 286947 votes and INC's Tarna Arjunsinh Gurjar bagged 183491 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between JNP and Indian National Congress here JNP candidate defeated his Indian National Congress counterpart with a difference of 6759 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP candidate by a margin of 79299 votes INC(I) candidate Patel Shantubhai Cunibhai had got 202194 while JNP got H.M. Patel votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, BLD candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 38062 votes. Here, BLD leader H. M. Patel attained 164502 votes and INC candidate Kumarshri Rajendra Sinhji Daljitsinhji bagged 126440 votes
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, NCO candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 14378 votes. Here, NCO leader Chandulal Chunilal Desai attained 137159 votes and INC candidate Gopaldas Benidas Patel bagged 122781 votes
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, SWA candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 44799 votes. Here, SWA leader C.C. Desai attained 151011 votes and INC candidate P.K. Japee bagged 106212 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated SWA candidate with a difference of 24609 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Gulzarilal Bulakhidas Nanda attained 129468 votes and SWA candidate Pashabhai Chhotabhai Patel bagged 104859 votes
