Background

Ongole: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Y.V.Subba Reddy from YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) won the elections by a margin of 15559 votes. The polling / voting in Ongole constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 1 on 11 April. The major contest is between Telugu Desam Party#s Sidda Raghava Rao and YSR Congress Party#s Magunta Srinivas Reddy

Ongole 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Telugu Desam Party won 15 out of the 25 parliamentary seat with 29.1 percent vote share while the YSR Congress Party managed to win just 8 seats with a 28.9 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Ongole Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 82.17% Lok Sabha percent with 81.91% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 82.43% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 5781 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 15 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Ongole, 13 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Y.V.Subba Reddy of the YSR Congress Party as he defeated Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy by a margin of 15559 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Telugu Desam Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Sreenivasulu Reddy Magunta attained 446584 votes and TDP's Bathula Vijaya Bharathi bagged 340563 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Telugu Desam Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 21948 votes. Here, Telugu Desam Party leader Karanam Balarama Krishna Murthy attained 392840 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Sreenivasulu Reddy Magunta bagged 370892 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Telugu Desam Party candidate with a difference of 20866 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy attained 351390 votes and Telugu Desam Party candidate Rajamohan Reddy Mekapati bagged 330524 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Telugu Desam Party candidate by a margin of 50060 votes INC candidate Parvathamma Magunta had got 381475 while TDP got Rajamohan Reddy M. votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Telugu Desam Party candidate with a difference of 39330 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Mangunta Subbarama Reddy attained 329913 votes and Telugu Desam Party candidate Dega Narasimha Reddy bagged 290583 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Telugu Desam Party candidate by a margin of 97370 votes INC candidate Rajamohana Reddy Mekapati had got 396282 while TDP got Narayanaswamy Katuri votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Telugu Desam Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 18143 votes. Here, Telugu Desam Party leader Bezawada Papireddy attained 287662 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Nkata Reddy Puli bagged 269519 votes
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate Venkata Reddi Puli attained 266831 votes and JNP's A.Bhakthavastala Reddy bagged 115656 votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BLD candidate by a margin of 89325 votes INC candidate Puli Venkata Reddy had got 252206 while BLD got Muppavarapu Venkaiah Alias Venkaiah Naidu votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated SWA candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate P. Ankineedu Prasada Rao attained 284597 votes and SWA's Gogineni Bharati Devi bagged 104703 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated CPM candidate by a margin of 80458 votes INC candidate K. Jaggaiah had got 212071 while CPM got M. Narayanaswamy votes.
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India (Marxist) and INC here Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 2343 votes.
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated CPI candidate with a difference of 24619 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Ronda Narapa Reddy attained 136582 votes and CPI candidate Madala Narayana Swamy bagged 111963 votes
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Independent candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 60297 votes IND candidate M. Nanadass had got 152472 while INC got E. Sundara Rama Reddi votes.

Former UP Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav expressed joy over safe return of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. Howwever, Yadav expressed concern over the death of 4 security personnel in Kupwara encounter. “Wing Cmmdr. Abhinandan’s family will feel great joy at being reunited with him. Sadly 4 more service families have been robbed of that joy today. Everyday the number of martyrs rises,” he tweeted. He alleged that the Modi government has failed in Jammu & Kasmir. “This Govt. has proven incapable of stabilising Kashmir and preventing further loss of life,” he added.
