Elections 2019 Phase 5 Highlights: 62.46 per cent turnout in fifth phase polling, says EC

Jangipur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Abhijit Mukherjee from Indian National Congress (INC) won the elections by a margin of 8161 votes. The polling / voting in Jangipur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Mafuja Khatun and All India Trinamool Congress#s Khalilur Rehman

Jangipur 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Jangipur Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 80.41% Lok Sabha percent with 78.27% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 82.68% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 11079 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 11 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Jangipur, 8 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Abhijit Mukherjee of the Indian National Congress as he defeated Muzaffar Hossain by a margin of 8161 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Communist Party of India candidate with a difference of 36860 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee attained 431647 votes and Communist Party of India candidate Abul Hasnat Khan bagged 394787 votes
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 61317 votes CPM candidate Abul Hasnat Khan had got 352580 while INC got Mainul Haque votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 72501 votes CPM candidate Abul Hasnat Khan had got 396761 while INC got Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Communist Party of India candidate with a difference of 13122 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Md. Idris Ali attained 392942 votes and Communist Party of India candidate Abedin Zainal bagged 379820 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 46639 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Abedin Zainal attained 303254 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Mannan Hossain bagged 256615 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 39181 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Abedin Zainal attained 309798 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Mohammad Sohrab bagged 270617 votes
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 14738 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Abedin Zainal attained 283977 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Md. Sohorab bagged 269239 votes
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 72826 votes CPM candidate Zainal Abedin had got 268932 while INC(I) got Lutfal Haque votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India and INC here Communist Party of India candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 2186 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated RSP candidate with a difference of 49356 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Lutfal Haque attained 104170 votes and RSP candidate Barun Roy bagged 54814 votes
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated IND candidate by a margin of 51689 votes INC candidate H. L. Haque had got 130927 while IND got J. Gupta votes.

62.56 per cent turnout in fifth phase polling, says Election Commission.

Claiming that there was an unusual increase in percentage of votes given on polling day and the final figures in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress in Telangana has sought information on polling details from the Election Commission, suspecting foul play.
Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy, who made a powerpoint presentation on the issue on Monday, met EC officials in Delhi two days ago and submitted a representation.

Over 63 per cent voter turnout was recorded at the end of polling in 12 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan on Monday. The maximum voter turnout of 72.42 per cent was recorded in the Ganganagar (SC) seat. Jaipur recorded 68.85 per cent voting followed by 66.57 per cent in Sikar, 66.20 per cent in Alwar, 65.15 per cent in Churu, 61.85 per cent in Bikaner, 61.58 per cent in Jaipur Rural.
A voter turnout of 60.90 per cent was recorded in Nagaur, 60.51 per cent in Jhunjhunu, 58.82 in Dausa, 58.65 per cent in Bharatpur, 53.92 per cent in Karauli-Dholpur, according to the website of the chief electoral officer of Rajasthan. The overall polling percentage in the 12 seats till 6 pm was 63.45 per cent, as per the website of the state poll panel.
