Hooghly: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Dr. Ratna De (Nag) from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the elections by a margin of 189084 votes. The polling / voting in Hooghly constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 5 on 6 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Locket chaterjee and All India Trinamool Congress#s Dr Ratna De Nag

Hooghly 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Hooghly Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 82.75% Lok Sabha percent with 83.36% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 82.11% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 16517 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 9 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Hooghly, 7 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Dr. Ratna De (Nag) of the All India Trinamool Congress as he defeated Pradip Saha by a margin of 189084 votes.

• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated All India Trinamool Congress candidate with a difference of 12485 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Rupchand Pal attained 440674 votes and All India Trinamool Congress candidate Tapan Das Gupta bagged 428189 votes
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India and WBTC here Communist Party of India candidate defeated his WBTC counterpart with a difference of 6116 votes.
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 38497 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Rupchand Pal attained 452353 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Gouri Sankar Banerjee bagged 413856 votes
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 55659 votes CPM candidate Rupchand Pal had got 383238 while INC got Umasnkar Halder votes.
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 69547 votes CPM candidate Rupchand Pal had got 423701 while INC got Umasankar Halder votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Communist Party of India candidate with a difference of 10967 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Indumati Bhattacharyya attained 320436 votes and Communist Party of India candidate Rup Chand Pal bagged 309469 votes
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 78393 votes CPM candidate Rup Chand Pal had got 280605 while INC(I) got Santimohan Roy votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate Bijoy Krishna Modak attained 223818 votes and INC's Bishnu Charan Banerjee bagged 117559 votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 31471 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Bijoy Krishna Modak attained 202672 votes and INC candidate Phani Ghosh bagged 171201 votes
