Darjeeling: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, S.S.Ahluwalia from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 197239 votes. The polling / voting in Darjeeling constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Raju Singh Bisht and All India Trinamool Congress#s Amar Singh Rai

Darjeeling 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

Out of the 13 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Darjeeling, 11 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of S.S.Ahluwalia of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Bhai Chung Bhutia by a margin of 197239 votes.

• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate S.P. Lepcha attained 256826 votes and INC's Nar Bahadur Khatiwara bagged 144857 votes.
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate Ananda Pathak attained 280589 votes and INC's Prasanta Nandy bagged 158033 votes.
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 77124 votes CPM candidate R B Rai had got 357291 while INC got K B Chettri votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Communist Party of India candidate by a margin of 51897 votes INC candidate Inder Jeet had got 354645 while CPM got Ananda Pathak votes.
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, GNLF candidate defated Communist Party of India candidate in one-sided contest. Here, GNLF candidate Inderjeet attained 435070 votes and CPM's Ananda Pathak bagged 289965 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India and Indian National Congress here Communist Party of India candidate defeated his Indian National Congress counterpart with a difference of 1389 votes.

Voters in great number fearlessly used their franchise in Shyamgiri (in Bastar's Dantewada district) polling station. Turnout was 77% in this polling station, Election Commission official said during a press conference.

Voter turnout: Sikkim (1 seat) - 69%, Mizoram (1 seat) - 60%, Nagaland (1 seat) - 78%, Manipur (1 seat) - 78.2%, Tripura (1 seat) - 81.8%, Assam (5 seats) - 68%, West Bengal (2 seats) - 81%. Final turnout is expected to rise.
