Balurghat: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Arpita Ghosh from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the elections by a margin of 106964 votes. The polling / voting in Balurghat constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Dr Sukanta Majumdar and All India Trinamool Congress#s Arpita Ghosh

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate defated WBTC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, RSP candidate Ranen Barman attained 428710 votes and WBTC's Nani Gopal Roy bagged 256535 votes.
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, RSP candidate Barman Ranen attained 440283 votes and INC's Satyendra Nath Roy bagged 296576 votes.
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 86081 votes RSP candidate Palas Barman had got 353159 while INC got Rasendra Nath Barman votes.
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 33526 votes. Here, Revolutionary Socialist Party leader Palas Barman attained 388103 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Satyendra Nath Roy bagged 354577 votes
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 22217 votes. Here, Revolutionary Socialist Party leader Palas Barman attained 317141 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Satyendra Nath Ray bagged 294924 votes
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 80328 votes RSP candidate Barman Palas had got 284766 while INC(I) got Ranajit Sarkar votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Revolutionary Socialist Party candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 54563 votes RSP candidate Palas Barman had got 206112 while INC got Rasendra Nath Burman votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated CPM candidate by a margin of 85278 votes INC candidate Rasendra Nath Barman had got 159896 while CPM got Pijush Kanti Das votes.
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated CPM candidate with a difference of 23449 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader J.N.Pramanik attained 130379 votes and CPM candidate D. P. Kanti bagged 106930 votes
• 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India (Marxist) and INC here Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 9820 votes.

संगीतकार गायक डॉ वसंतराव देशपांडे यांचा जन्मशताब्दी महोत्सव वसंतराव देशपांडे संगीत सभेतर्फे रवींद्र नाट्य मंदिरात आयोजित करण्यात आला. या कार्यक्रमाला माजी मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर जोशी, गायक पंडित शंकर अभ्यंकर, गायिका फैय्याज,गायक सत्यशील देशपांडे आणि अच्युत गोडबोले यांनी वसंतरावांच्या आठवणींना यावेळी उजाळा दिला. तर वसंतरावांचे शिष्य चंद्रकांत लिमये, गायिका नुपूर गाडगीळ, पद्मभूषण प्रभाताई अत्रे यांच्या संगीत मैफिलीने या महोत्सवात रंगत आणली.
