Tamil Nadu Class 10, 12 Syllabus: Govt Likely To Cut Syllabus By 50%; Decision by December 5

An 18-member panel has been set to deliberate on the issue and prepare a report on the reduction of the syllabus which will be submitted by Tamil Nadu School Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan by November 30 to the Chief Minister.

With a view to offer some breather to students of Class Xth and XIIth, the Tamil Nadu government is planning to reduce the syllabus for the academic year 2020-21. It had set up an 18-member panel to discuss the change and present a report for TN SSLC and TN HSE 2021 exams. As per the report in India Today, school education minister KA Sengottaiyan would submit the report by November 30 to the chief minister.  It is likely that the government may reduce TN syllabus by 49-50 percent for 2021. After the submission of the report by the Expert Committee, the state government is likely to take a final call on the issue of bringing down the school syllabus. The announcement is expected to be made within five days of report submission that is, on December 5, as per the report. The decision will be taken in view of the closure of schools owing to lockdown. Tamil Nadu has taken a decision to reopen schools but retracted after it witnessed opposition from various stakeholders. There are reports of the board exams getting delayed as well. Schools have remained shut across the country since March due to Covid-19 pandemic. In view of this, CBSE has already reduced the board exam 2021 syllabus by 30% and CISCE has also cut down its syllabus by 35%. It is also expected that the syllabus may be reduced further going ahead with other states also mulling the same. CBSE has been planning to postpone the CBSE board exams 2021 by 45-60 days but is yet to make a final announcement on the dates. States like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have announced their decision to postpone the board exams 2021 for classes 10 and 12. Meanwhile, schools in several other states have reopened in line with the Centres’ Covid-19 guidelines. Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will go live with students and teachers on December 3 to talk more about the upcoming board exams and competitive exams. There are important announcements expected this week.
