Animesh Pradhan Secures 2nd Place In UPSC Despite Recently Losing His Mom To Cancer

Aspiring to serve his home state, Odisha, Animesh Pradhan achieved this success without any coaching.

Animesh Pradhan's journey to success in the UPSC Civil Services Examination is one of resilence, he has secured the second position in UPSC CSE 2023. Despite facing the loss of his mother, he continued with his interview preparation for the civil services examination and secured the second rank. The UPSC CSE results were announced yesterday, April 16, 2024. Aspiring to serve his home state, Odisha, Animesh Pradhan achieved this success without any coaching. He now aims to serve his state, especially the backward areas. 

Hailing from Odisha's Angul district, Animesh is currently employed by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) refineries division in the national capital. As an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, he wishes to work for the people of his state. Animesh has always given IAS as his first preference and hopes to get his home state, Odisha, as a cadre to work in. Pradhan wants to work for the betterment of the people of his state, especially the marginalized ones and those from the backward areas.

"The result has been very fulfilling. I thank my parents for my success. It is like a dream come true. I lost my mother to cancer last month when the interview for the civil services examination was going on and I lost my father in December 2015 while I was studying in Class 11. Their loss is irreparable to me," told news agency PTI.

Animesh Pradhan has completed his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya in his home district and graduated in Engineering in Computer Science from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela. He opted for Sociology as his optional subject for UPSC and did not attend any coaching classes for the UPS CSE exam. He used to devote 5-6 hours to his preparation. Animesh is now looking forward to the next chapter of his journey, his wish to serve the people of Odisha remains strong.
