NEP Connects Education With Culture, Jobs, And Technology: UP Higher Education Minister

Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay was speaking at the seventh convocation ceremony of Sharda University in Greater Noida.

UP’s Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay has said that the New Education Policy introduced by the central government links knowledge with culture, employment and technology. He further said that the previous education policy formed by the Britisher Lord Macaulay was aimed at creating "kaale angrez" out of Indians. The remarks from the UP Education Minister came up during the seventh convocation ceremony of Sharda University in Greater Noida. 

"There was talk for a long time about a new education policy. Some said that indeed a change was needed, while some said they will change it. However, there was no blueprint for a new education policy," Yogendra Upadhyay was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

"During the troubled times (of Covid-19 19 pandemic) in 2020, a new education policy was brought in. At the centre of this new policy was linking education with culture, employment and technique. Now policies, initiative and syllabus would be formed around these three focus points. This is what (PM Narendra) Modi has given to the country and the future generations," he was further reported as saying. 

Underlining that education is a ‘mission,’ and not a ‘profession,’ he further underlined that it is the responsibility of educational institutions to nurture and brush-up the talent of students. Lok Sabha MP Mahesh Sharma who was also present at the event, urged the students that it is now their turn to give it back to the society and humanity through the valuable education they have received. 

Notably, the Sharda University, a private varsity located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, held its 7th convocation ceremony on October 8, 2023. A total of 3,099 students were awarded degrees at the convocation event, as per the University chancellor P K Gupta.
