NEET-UG Results 2024: SC To Hear All Pleas Pertaining To 'Paper Leak' Allegations On July 8

The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered that all petitions alleging paper leak and unfair means in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate (UG) examination 2024 (NEET-UG 2024 results), to be tagged together and be heard on July 8 and sought National Testing Agency's (NTA) response on issues other than compensatory marks.

The court heard the petitions on the grace marks awrded and allowed Centre's proposal to cancel the grace marks awarded to1563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates in NEET-UG 2024 results. Centre proposed today that 1563 students will be given an option to take a re-test or their result will be calculated on marks obtained without grace marks.

Earlier on Tuesday, the top court issued notice to NTA in the matter pertaining to dicrepancies in the NEET-UG results 2024. A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah issued notice to NTA and remarked that "sanctity has been affected, so we need answers."

However, the top court refused to stop counseling for admissions of students to the medical colleges.

On May 17, the top court refused to stay results but issued notice to NTA over allegations of paper leak.

On Wednesday, the Centre informed the Delhi High Court that it will seek transfer of all the matters related to alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 results to the Supreme Court.

Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta appearing for Centre informed the Delhi High Court bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna that the NTA will move a transfer petition before the Supreme Court to get all the cases trasfered and tagged for hearing.

Mehta said that following results of NEET-UG exams, several petitions have been filed acorss High Courts of the country and to ensure that there are no conflicting views, the NTA will request the Supreme Court to hear all such matters together.

SG Mehta told the high court that the petitions in the NEET-UG controversy can be divided into mainly three categories: (1) Those seeking enquiry into alleged paper leak of NEET UG question papers; (2) Petitions filed against award of grace marks over delay in exam centre to more than 1500 students; (3) Petitions challenging the questions in the paper where allegedly multiple options were correct for one question.

Today, the cancellation of grace marks has decided atleast one of the three matters. The rest of the petitions will be taken up on July 8.
