NEET Paper Leak Case: In the ongoing investigation of the NEET UG paper leak, a court in Godhra has granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) a four-day remand of four individuals accused in the NEET UG paper leak case. During this time, the CBI will interrogate the accused to gather more information and evidence related to the NEET UG paper leak incident. On Friday, the Central Bureau of Investigation asked for a four-day remand of four out of five people arrested by Gujarat police for alleged irregularities in the NEET UG exam, which was held on May 5, 2024, in Godhra.

CBI lawyer Dhruv Malik told the district court that, although Gujarat police had already investigated, the CBI needed custody of these individuals for a new investigation.

The four accused identified as Tushar Bhatt, Purshottam Sharma, Vibhor Anand, and Arif Vora, were produced before the District Court, where the CBI asked for custody on the grounds that they are conducting a fresh investigation into the NEET irregularities that can have a larger impact on the national examination. The alleged involvement of these individuals prompted the CBI to seek custody for further investigation. The CBI officials submitted their remand request to the District Court through the District Government Pleader of Panchmahal. This pleader had previously represented the Panchmahal district police in the case based on the May 8 FIR against the accused.

CBI did not request the remand of the fifth accused, Parshuram Roy because he had already completed the maximum 14-day police custody period since his arrest following the CBI FIR on May 8, 2024. The Panchmahal district police had seized cheques worth Rs 2.3 crore from Roy’s office in Vadodara, allegedly given by parents seeking to engage in the malpractice.
