The Supreme Court will hear a petition today filed by 19 NEET PG 2024 aspirants, raising concerns on transparency of results and the normalisation process. The petition, filed by Ishika Jain, Kiran Kumar Patil, Tanmoy Deshmukh, and 16 others, was submitted on September 7 under diary number 41088/2024. A three-judge bench, consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Manoj Misra, and Justice JB Pardiwala, will hear this matter. 

In their petition, the students have requested the Supreme Court to instruct the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to release key response sheets, raw and pre-normalised scores, normalised results, and the official answer keys for both shifts of the NEET PG 2024 exam.

Additionally, the aspirants have called for the suspension of the NEET PG 2024 counselling process until these concerns are addressed. They are also seeking the option of revaluation for those dissatisfied with their results. The petitioners propose that measures like the release of answer keys, question papers, and revaluation options should become a standard practice for future NEET PG exams to ensure greater transparency.

The NEET PG 2024 results, announced by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on August 23, triggered concerns among students due to unexpectedly low rankings. After comparing their scores with unofficial answer keys, many candidates raised suspicions about discrepancies in the ranking process. In response, on September 4, aspirants formally requested that NBEMS release the official answer key and set up a grievance portal to address their concerns.

With the counselling process approaching, the candidates are under pressure for timely resolution. They have been actively urging the NBEMS to give clarity on the results.

Notably to participate in the counselling process, candidates must achieve at least a 50 percentile to qualify for counselling, while SC, ST, and OBC category candidates require a minimum of 40 percentile.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) manages the NEET PG Counselling for 50 percent All India Quota (AIQ) and 100 percent seats at Deemed, Central Universities, Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), and PG DNB courses, facilitating admissions to MD, MS, Diploma, PG DNB, and MDS programs.
