Teachers' Recruitment: Bihar Mahagathbandhan Govt Ally Among Parties To Demand Roll Back Of Domicile Policy Changes
In its latest revision to teachers recruitment norms in the state, the Bihar government has recently announced that non-Biharis would also be able to appear for teachers recruitment in Bihar.
The Bihar government's recent move to allow non-residents of Bihar to appear for teachers' recruitment in the state has started drawing flak from political parties as well as activists. The CPIML(L), an ally of the ruling Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, has criticised the state government’s move, saying that the revised teachers recruitment norm is highly unjustified and against the youth of the country.
In a statement issued by CPIML(L) state secretary Kunal, the party has asked the state government to immediately withdraw the decision. The government's decision to remove domicile policy for teachers' jobs in the state is highly unjustified and against the youths of Bihar who are preparing for it. There are several states, including Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, who are following domicile policy in state government jobs," the CPIML(L) secretary was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
"Our party always fights for the cause of teachers and unemployed youths. When thousands of unemployed youths in Bihar are preparing for teachers' jobs, such decisions by the government are not just acceptable. The state government must review its decision," he further added.
Speaking on the Bihar government's decision, Kunal further said that the state government’s decision seems justifiable only on the pretext that Bihar has a shortage of talent, which in return, also raises concerns on the education quality in the state.
Notably, the conflict stems from the Bihar government’s decision on Tuesday earlier this week announcing that non-Bihari’s would also be eligible to apply for teachers' recruitment in Bihar. Previously, only residents of Bihar with a domicile were allowed to appear for teachers' recruitment in the state.
Following the Bihar government’s revision of teachers recruitment norms in the state, activists and aspirants were quick to respond and criticise the government’s move. Speaking on the revisions in the teachers recruitment norms, student union leader Dilip Kumar said that this is a very wrong decision by the Bihar government, and we, the candidates of Bihar feel that we have been deprived of our rights. He further added that all states have basic reservation for the native people of the state. If the Bihar government is offering 35% reservation to women, then women from other states would also be able to apply for teachers recruitment in Bihar and avail reservation under the 35% quota for women, he added.
