Patna: Police Detains BTSC Aspirants Protesting Against State Government

BTSC aspirants protesting against the state government in Patna have been detained by the Bihar Police.

The Bihar police on Thursday, February 23, detained Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) aspirants in Patna. The aspirants were protesting in the state capital Patna, against the state government's failure in providing jobs to thousands of aspirants. Over the last few weeks, several BTSC aspirants have been engaged in protests demanding the declaration of BTSC recruitment results. There has been a huge outroar among aspirants considering the extended delay in the announcement of BTSC recruitment results.

The Bihar Technical Service Commission aspirants were protesting against the state government’s ho-hum approach towards the BTSC Junior Engineer Recruitment 2019. Despite the BTSC Junior Engineer Recruitment Notification being released in 2019 followed by the recruitment drive and counselling, the commission is yet to announce the final results and merit list of the recruitment.

Notably, the BTSC Junior Engineer Recruitment result was announced in 2022, but within a span of two days, the result was taken back by the BTSC citing irregularities in the merit list. With rising voices from BTSC aspirants from across the state, the BTSC, earlier last year, issued a notification that it would announce the result of the BTSC Junior Engineer Recruitment 2019 in October 2022. However, with February 2023 almost gone, the commission is yet to declare the result of the same.

Failing to announce the results and commence the further recruitment process of the Junior Engineer Recruitment, hundreds of aspirants gathered in Patna and started marching towards the RJD and JDU offices for protest demonstrations. However, the aspirants were interrupted by the police following which the aspirants group resisted the police interference.

With the tussle escalating, there were clashes reported between the aspirants and the police, where the police was also reportedly said to lathicharge on the aspirants. Following the clash, the police have been said to detain several protesting students. Several videos reportedly of the clash between the bTSC aspirants and the police have also surfaced on the internet.
