New Skilling Scheme For Girls: What Is Navya Yojna And Who Can Apply?

Under NAVYA, girls aged 16 to 18 years who have completed at least Class 10 will be provided with vocational training, especially in non-traditional job roles.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) launched the NAVYA Scheme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, the ministry said that the scheme focused on empowering adolescent girls through vocational training.

Named NAVYA – Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls, the scheme was officially launched on 24 June 2025 in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, by  Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE, and Savitri Thakur, Minister of State for Women and Child Development.

NAVYA is part of the Centre’s targeted push towards building a skilled, self-reliant, and inclusive India, an official release from the MWCD stated. The pilot initiative will initially be implemented in 27 districts across 19 states, including Aspirational Districts and districts in the North-Eastern region. The authorities noted that this decision was taken to focus on inclusive and regional development goals.

NAVYA Scheme: Eligibility And Other Details 

Under NAVYA, girls aged 16 to 18 years who have completed at least Class 10 will be provided with vocational training, especially in non-traditional job roles. These include skills like drone operation, mobile phone repair, and solar panel installation—fields that are increasingly relevant in today’s fast-changing job market.

A seven-hour training module has been developed to introduce the participants to practical, industry-relevant skill sets. The programme also aims to foster confidence and self-reliance among the trainees, giving them exposure to careers previously considered unconventional for women.

The government has stated that NAVYA will draw from the successful frameworks of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and other flagship skill development schemes.

Though official details about the application process are yet to be disclosed, authorities suggested that enrolment may take place through the MWCD or MSDE’s websites or a dedicated portal in due course.

According to the government, NAVYA is more than just a skilling programme. “Through NAVYA, Government of India will reaffirm its commitment to empowering girls with skills, confidence, and opportunities—ensuring that every young woman becomes a catalyst in India’s journey towards a developed, self-reliant, and inclusive future,” the official release stated.
