Delhi Services Ordinance Row: Kejriwal To Meet Telangana CM KCR On Saturday

Delhi CM Kejriwal will meet with his Telangana counterpart K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday to solicit BRS support for the national capital services ordinance.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday will meet with his Telangana counterpart K Chandrashekar Rao in Hyderabad to seek the Bharat Rashtra Samithi's (BRS) support in opposing the Centre's ordinance on control of services in the national capital. Kejriwal, who is also the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, has been reaching out to leaders of non-BJP parties to gain their support against the ordinance so that the Centre's attempt to replace it through a bill is defeated when it is introduced in Parliament.

In a Tweet, the Delhi CM said: "Meeting Hon'ble CM of Telangana tomorrow in Hyderabad to seek support against unconstitutional and undemocratic ordinance passed by BJP government against the orders of Hon'ble Supreme Court".

He met West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, and NCP chief Sharad Pawar earlier this week to seek their support in the matter.

Kejriwal has also requested time to meet with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi to solicit their assistance in this matter.

The Centre issued an ordinance on May 19 to establish an authority for the transfer and posting of Group-A officers in Delhi, which the AAP government called a deception with the Supreme Court's decision on control of services.

The ordinance came a week after the Supreme Court handed over control of services in Delhi to the elected government, with the exception of police, public order, and land. It proposes establishing a National Capital Civil Service Authority to oversee the transfer and disciplinary proceedings of Group-A officers from the DANICS cadre.

Prior to the top court's May 11 verdict, all officers in the Delhi government were subject to the executive control of the lieutenant governor.
