'Backbone Of India's Economy': Rahul Gandhi Meets Labourers In Delhi, Says 'Life's Mission To Ensure Them Respect'

Rahul Gandhi met a few labourers at a construction site in Delhi today and called them the "backbone of India's economy".

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday met labourers at a construction site at Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar in Delhi. He was spotted interacting with them and indulging in manual labour at the site with the labourers. He stated that his life mission is to ensure the labourers, whom he called "backbone of the India's economy", receive their due respect and rights.

Rahul Gandhi shared the pictures and videos of his interaction with the labourers on his WhatsApp channel, where he wrote: "Today, I met with laborer brothers at GTB Nagar, learned about their troubles and problems, and lent a hand at a site in Gopalpur. There is no limit to their hard work, but the fruits are minimal – these brothers, who build the country with their hands, deserve justice and their rights."

Asserting that his life's mission now is to ensure the labourers of India receive their rights and respect, Gandhi wrote on his channel: "In India today, there is no respect for manual laborers, as I have said before. This point was confirmed today after meeting the laborers who stand daily in search of work at GTB Nagar."

My Life's Mission Is To Ensure Labourers Receive Full Rights & Respect: Gandhi

"In the face of rising prices, they are barely surviving on meager daily wages, which are not even guaranteed. My life's mission is to ensure that the laborers of India, the manual workers, receive their full rights and respect," the Raebareli MP added.

In the video clips and photos, Gandhi can be seen donning his usual white t-shirt and engaging in manual labour such as mixing cement and palcing tiles on the stairs that were being made.

Congress had also shared the pictures of Rahul Gandhi's meeting with the labourers at the GTB construction site on X.

Calling labourers the "backbone of India's economy," the grand old party in another post said: "Today Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met the workers at GTB Nagar in Delhi and listened to their problems. These hardworking laborers are the backbone of India's economy. It is our responsibility to make their lives simpler and secure their future."

Gandhi was recently criticised for his remarks against Hindus, which sparked a major row. Following this, several parts of his speech in the Lok Sabha, were expunged from the Parliament's records.

His remarks on Hinduism even prompted a rare intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi had also written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker, demanding that the expunged parts of his maiden speech be restored.
