Five persons were killed and 14 injured after a truck carrying Kanwar Yatris collided with another at Delhi's GT Karnal road on Thursday. Accused driver Pappu Kumar was arrested. Further is investigation underway, the Delhi Police said, as per news agency ANI. More details about the accident are awaited.
Several such incidents have been reported in the past few days. In another accident, a child and two men died after two motorcycles were hit by a mini-truck carrying 'kanwariyas' near the Shankaracharya Chowk in Uttarakhand's Kankhal area on Wednesday, police said, as reported by news agency PTI. In the incident a woman was seriously injured, Kankhal police station in-charge Nitesh Sharma informed.
He said that the 'kanwariyas' were going to Delhi.

The deceased have been identified as Rohit Kumar (30), a resident of Fina village in Bijnor, Noni alias Pushpendra (30), a resident of Nagla Chhajlet in Moradabad, and one-year-old Mahi.
Pooja, who was injured in the accident, was admitted to the district hospital where her condition remains critical, the officer said, as per PTI.
Another such accident took place in Uttar Pradesh wherein two Kanwar Yatra pilgrims were killed and two others were injured after their motorcycle was hit by a truck near Panjith village in Shamli district. Two policemen have been suspended in connection to the accident for dereliction of duty, officials said, as per PTI.
Shamli Superintendent of Police Abhishek informed that the incident took place when four kanwariyas Sanjit (26), Harsh (25), Manish (23) and Sanju (22) were going to Haridwar from Haryana on a motorcycle. The motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck late Tuesday night, he said.
The SP stated that Sanjit and Harsh were killed while Manish and Sanju were taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Taking note of the incident, the SP has suspended Panjith police outpost in-charge Radhey Shyam Bharti and sector in-charge Kairana Sub-Inspector Naresh Kumar for dereliction of duty, as per PTI's report.
