Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday addressed the Legislative Assembly following an uproar in the House over a discussion on Manipur. Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi CM Kejriwal said he remained silent over extreme violence in the northeastern state while the entire world condemned it. The address came after four BJP MLAs were marshalled out from the Delhi Legislative Assembly for protesting against a discussion on the Manipur crisis.
"BJP MLAs are clearly saying that they don't have any relation with Manipur. It's PM Modi's message that they don't have any relation with Manipur. Prime Minister is silent on the Manipur issue. 6,500 FIRs have been registered, over 150 killed but the Prime Minister remained silent. Houses of 4,000 people were burnt, the Prime Minister remained silent," Delhi CM Kejriwal remarked adding that European Union Parliament discussed the violence and the entire world condemned it.
"Prime Minister like a father figure but he turned his back on the daughters of Manipur," he added.
Remarking that the Prime Minister "ran away" from the ground, the Delhi Chief Minister raised the issue of Wrestlers' protests, saying, "The Prime Minister could have just said that 'I will ensure a probe and that culprits are punished'. The hapless female wrestlers just wanted words of assurance from the Prime Minister but they had to approach Supreme Court."
"When China has been challenging us for nine years, the Prime Minister is unable to utter the word 'China'," he remarked.
Earlier in the day, BJP MLAs Abhay Verma, Jitender Mahajan, Ajay Mahawar, and OP Sharma were marshalled out of the House for demanding a discussion on the issues pertaining to the national capital.
Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly and BJP MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri stressed that the only issues related to Delhi can be discussed in the Assembly. "Discussion on Manipur has been done in Parliament. They (AAP) are running away from the discussion. When we raise the issues of Delhi they (AAP) marshal us out," he told news agency ANI.
