2 Prisoners Injured In Firing At Bihar Court Premises, Assailants At Large. BJP Demands CM's Resignation
Bihar News: Two prisoners were being escorted to the Samastipur courthouse when four assailants confronted them and opened fire, injuring both.
Chaos unfolded at Bihar's Samastipur Court premises on Saturday as gunshots rang out, leaving the vicinity rattled. Criminals openly challenged the police and shot two inmates, prompting panic and chaos. The incarcerated individuals, identified as Prabhat Chaudhary and Prabhat Tiwari, were brought to the courthouse for a hearing, during which the shots were fired, triggering a flurry of commotion. Both injured inmates have been admitted for medical treatment, while the assailants managed to escape the scene.
According to available information, both inmates were incarcerated in a liquor-related case. On Saturday morning, as they were being escorted to the courthouse, four assailants confronted them and opened fire, injuring Prabhat Chaudhary who was hit in the thigh, while Prabhat Tiwari sustained a gunshot wound to his hand. Subsequent to the incident, all assailants managed to flee the court premises, covering a distance of about 30 to 40 meters on foot through the main gate.
"A few days ago in Samastipur Court campus, a mafia Prabhat Chowdhary was arrested and sent to jail after six months of consistent efforts and surveillance and with the help of a technical team. The hearing of his case was going on and he was present when four miscreants came and shot him in his leg. He is stable and didn't sustain any major injury. Another person was also shot in the incident," Samastipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinay Tiwari said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
SP Vinay Tiwari revealed that a few days prior, Prabhat Chaudhary, a notorious liquor mafia member, had been apprehended with the assistance of the Special Task Force (STF) following a six-month-long intensive search. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The ongoing trial of this case was scheduled for today's hearing.
He pointed to the suspected involvement of the "Liquor mafia" in the incident and admitted to a lapse in security saying if police officials present at the spot had timely closed the exit gates, shooters would have been arrested immediately. He said appropriate action will be taken on such personnel.
We are looking for those miscreants and the security in the court campus has been increased, he added.
The police officers accompanying the inmates immediately rushed them to Sadar Hospital for treatment amidst a tense atmosphere. Following the incident, a team from the District Investigation Unit, including officers from local and rural police stations, arrived at the scene. High-ranking officers, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amit Kumar and SP Vinay Tiwari, also visited the site and conducted inquiries at the hospital.

Bihar BJP Demands CM Nitish Kumar's Resignation
Meanwhile, Bihar BJP President Samrat Chaudhari decried the law and order situation in the state saying, "Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is not able to handle the state. He has become unfortunate for the state... When there is a firing inside the court premises then how is the law and order strict in the state? When we cannot secure courts, journalists, civilians, and police, what remains? Nitish Kumar should not remain the Chief Minister even for an hour, he should immediately resign."
"In this state, witnesses are not safe. A few days ago a journalist was killed in Araria, he was a witness in a murder case... If witnesses are not safe then the criminals won't get punishment. Frequently, the coal mafia and sand mafia are attacking the police. These frequent attacks show that Nitish Kumar's USP of Law and Order is over. He is not interested. In his bid to become the prime minister, he has neglected Bihar," remarked BJP MP and former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi, as per ANI.
